About
For the past year I worked at Tessell, a database-as-a-service company, on the part of the platform that changes customers' production databases: patching them, failing them over, resizing their storage. Every change had the same rule: it must not break anything.
Most of my work was in Java and Spring Boot, with some Go, on PostgreSQL and AWS. I like the unglamorous parts: careful migrations, validation that catches the bad request before it reaches a database, and test suites that prove two systems really behave the same.
Before that I built a digital-currency wallet on an NFC smartcard as an intern, and I still spend evenings on competitive programming.

Software Engineer · Tessell
- Oracle listener patching. On servers hosting several Oracle databases, the shared listener ran from the oldest Oracle Home, so it never got patched. I built the feature that moves it to the newest home, with downtime capped at 10 minutes and safe handling when a rollback fails. It runs on 500+ servers.
- DR drills. Wrote the rules for PostgreSQL drills that fail over to the DR region and switch back, so customers can prove recovery works for audits without changing their setup for good.
- Licensing. Moved licenses and scripts to be shared across subscriptions and added pay-as-you-go licensing, across 5+ services and about 50 customers, with zero-downtime migrations.
- Bigger disks on gp3. Raised AWS storage support from 16 TiB to 64 TiB / 80k IOPS, so large disks stopped being forced onto io2 at about twice the cost. The choice is now a per-customer setting with no redeploy.
- Java to Go. Helped port a core service to Go (1.75 GB → 100 MB per pod). I owned the licensing APIs: a 133-test suite run against both versions, and 27 issues fixed.

Built a Central Bank Digital Currency wallet that lives on an NFC smartcard: two Android apps in Java, a 10-command APDU protocol between card and phone, RSA-2048 / AES-256 secured sessions, and token locking so the same money can't be spent twice.

InfoCard↗
An NFC smart-card app that keeps identity, healthcare and ticketing data in separate blocks, so each reader only sees what it's allowed to. Readers prove who they are with RSA challenge-response.

Compute shape tool · internal, Tessell
Adding a custom compute shape meant running two scripts and calling two services by hand for every tenant. I turned it into a small web tool with a preview step, so SREs do it themselves in about 5 minutes instead of 30.

Interview Prep tools↗
Five tools I built for backend interview prep, all on one page. AlgoScope traces 159 DSA problems step by step from real Java runs. Java Concepts Stepper walks through JVM internals, collections, concurrency and Spring. DB Concepts Stepper covers 71 database topics, from SQL to sharding, with runnable SQLite examples. OS Concepts Stepper covers 59 operating-system topics, from scheduling and deadlocks to paging and containers, with in-browser simulators. MachineCodingLab has 18 machine coding and LLD tasks with real test suites in Java, Python, Go and C++. The steppers have quizzes, and every tool has shareable links to individual problems and topics.
